Business greening and sustainability

We blend science and consulting into an exceptional service.

The question is fast becoming: in times of such rapidly changing global conditions can firms still afford to adopt a business-as-usual approach? Certainly a new attitude to the impact of commercial and industrial operations on the environment is an area that should be assessed.

Carbon footprinting

J&G can undertake carbon footprinting of a particular facility, business, building, process or product. Our approach follows accepted international standards for Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2004) and carbon footprinting (Greenhouse Gases Protocol, ISO14064:2006 and PAS 2050)

Carbon footprint reduction strategy

The most popular form of “green” measurement is carbon footprinting. Our engineers and environmental specialists will measure the carbon footprint of an organisation and then advise on strategies to reduce this footprint. They will calculate the costs and payback periods and select the most suitable set of interventions. Products will be independently assessed to determine the best intervention to suit a client’s needs.

Environmental Footprinting

The measurement of an environmental footprint goes beyond that of a carbon footprint in that it includes the potential impacts of an organization’s activities in terms of water and waste, thereby establishing a holistic picture of the environmental impact.

ISO 14000 (Environmental) and ISO 18000 (H&S) development, implementation and auditing

J&G have developed, implemented and audited numerous environmental management systems, always with the aim of ensuring that our clients strive for continual improvement in terms of the potential impact of their activities on the environment.

Procurement and implementation management (project management)

J&G are product independent - which means the firm always acts in the best interests of clients. J&G are able to project manage the procurement and implementation of the chosen intervention strategies needed to reduce an organisation’s environmental footprint. This can be done either at design stage or for retrofitting of existing systems.

Cleaner production studies

Our team is able to assess the use of resources, including energy and water, as well as various processes, in order to minimise the amount of energy required or waste being generated. This will ultimately lead to cost and environmental savings.

Sustainable development technologies

Our environmental engineers have experience in sustainable development techniques for new and existing developments, for example, rainwater harvesting, biodigestors, building orientations and renewable energy.

Environmental training

The success of greening strategies and interventions relies on the input and participation of all staff within an organisation. Our team will conduct workshops with staff, or the necessary training required, to ensure that environmental sustainability becomes a vital component within the organisation.

Green procurement strategies

We can also help develop the policies and strategies needed for the preferential procurement of products with low environmental impact.

Economic analysis

The economist on our team can assess the economic impact of sustainable development and greening strategies on a firm’s bottom line.

Green building and Green Star Rating

We are able to assist clients in terms of assessing a proposed building at the design stage or assessing existing buildings in terms of the Green Star Rating tool.

Integrated Waste Management Plans

J&G have developed numerous plans for the integrated management of solid waste based on the principles of the waste management hierarchy. Our waste specialists are experts in developing tailor-made recycling strategies to minimise the amount of waste disposed of at landfill, to recycle valuable materials into the market and ultimately to reduce the impact of solid waste on the environment.

Environmental Impact Assessments

Some greening interventions trigger certain environmental legislation, and we can assess the need for environmental impact assessments for a proposed greening strategy.
