Horizon Farm Trust, a facility that cares for people with mental disabilities in the Shongweni Valley, recently received a much-needed boost when Terratest, a geotechnical, environmental and earth science consultancy, assisted the Trust with their water supply problems by developing a borehole system. The Trust, tucked away in the Giba Gorge Nature Sanctuary, has been built up by Geoff and Carol Hilton-Barber and their dedicated team of staff, parents, residents and corporate sponsors. Water supply to the farm has traditionally been from two less than desirable sources, a shallow well and a nearby river. Terratest came on board as a corporate sponsor and deployed two geo-hydrologists, Mark Schapers and Douglas Mbata, who successfully located and drilled a production borehole. The move also offers a potential surplus for existing and planned agricultural activities on the farm. Celebrating the development are (from left) Schapers and Mbata (both of Terratest), together with Geoff Hilton-Barber and some residents of Horizon Farm Trust.
