    Engineering and environmental consultancy Jeffares & Green (J&G), was the lead consultants for the eThekwini municipality's Electron Road Waste Management Facility, which won first prize for technical excellence at the South African Institution of Civil Engineering Durban Branch Awards 2014, held last month.

    Africa’s first multi-span prestressed concrete ribbon bridge

    The new pedestrian bridge over the Metolong Dam in Lesotho spans a section of the dam where the tail- water on the Phuthiatsana River will be approximately 215 m wide by 45 m deep. The design challenge was to find a cost-effective solution for a fairly long bridge, with a relatively lightweight deck, to span a deep and steep-sided gorge.

    The Electron Road Waste Management Facility was awarded first prize for "Technical Excellence" at the SAICE Durban Branch Awards on 20 June and the Metolong Dam Pedestrian Bridge (Lesotho) won "Best International Project" at the SAICE Pietermartizburg Branch Award on 27 June.
